One of the most exciting times of my life, was when my cousin convinced me that we could backpack across Europe at a price we could afford. As I was preparing to take the bar exam, she was in charge of making our plans, securing our parents permission and deciding our basic itinerary. She located cheap airfare and although it meant a late night departure and some weird connections, it got us there. She also arranged for a Eurail pass so we could pay for all our train travel between destinations prior to us leaving the States. Eurail pass discounts are a great bargain and wonderful way for travelers to save money when traveling around the European countries. Our pass and our train timetables were indispensable to us as we made our way across 7 countries. We certainly benefitted from the ability to move about with the need to figure in the cost per day and per journey.

Honestly it’s just a nifty like exhibit wrapped around an excuse to build a big lookout point for Mickey’s Toontown. Have you even wondered which chipmunk was Chip and which chipmunk was Dale? No, I haven’t either. But apparently you can tell the two apart by the color of their nose and if there is a gap between their teeth vs not. I wouldn’t really go out of my way to see this thing. That was ok; he really didn’t have any reason to go home anyway. He liked life on the road. He was able to see all parts of the country while being paid. He had been to every state except Hawaii; you cannot drive a truck there. He had been to Mexico a few times. That was before the border restrictions were so strict. He had been north of the border many times. He could still remember how much easier that was before Sep 11, 2001. He would never forget the Trucker magazine headline that told all truckers “Passports Needed for Canada”. He had never had a passport in his life. Now he had one and it was always in his truck. One of his favorite places to take a delivery was Wyoming. Although negotiating the mountains could sometimes be a challenge, he loved the scenery. His Mother kept telling him he needed to settle down and start a family. If he decided to do that, he would have to leave life on the road. He wasn’t sure he was ready for that. For now, he was free to travel, making great money and seeing America the Beautiful.
