Lungworm, A Problem For Cats As Well As Dogs!

Lungworm is a growing problem and has been highlighted as a threat to our dogs in particular. If they ingest an infected slug or snail by mistake (probably one that has been unsuspectingly lurking under a toy in the garden), they can become infected by the parasite that causes lungworm, a disease that affects breathing and in the worse cases death.

However, lungworm is a threat to cats as well. The parasite in question not only uses slugs and snails nas a host but mice as well, and if our cat is a particularly good mouser, they run the risk of catching the disease.

It’s not something we can prevent happening, but if anyone is concerned about their cats breathing or coughing they should take them to a vet. Luckily there are treatments for this problem and if it can be diagnosed soon enough by a vet can be easily treated.
